How to Create an Inviting Library for Teens!

This week Emily and I posted another YouTube video for our YA librarian channel--woo hoo!  We had a question from Allison on how to promote a positive teen environment within the library.  I loved this question!  This is a question that all librarians should consider for their patrons--how can our space make teens want to visit?  This includes our relationship with teens and not just a physical space.  Check out the video--good stuff here!  And you gotta love our Halloween attire!

In the video I talk about how your space can be physically attractive so I thought I'd share some photos from my library.

We created our own version of a RedBox to display new books.  We call it a "Readbox" and we made it out of cardboard!  The images on the front stay the same but the books on the cart change out as we add new books to the collection.

Peeta and Katniss welcome students to our library.  Can you believe that a student donated these to me?!

Instead of having a standard "Books into Movies" bulletin board, we made it "From Small Print to the Big Screen."  The "curtains" are made out of bulletin board paper and we only display new YA books-turned-into-movies.

I love student artwork, especially this 3D Art project!  A student took regular objects, like a flower pot, and turned it into an Expo marker!

Many of our ceiling tiles were painted by 2D Art students.  This is one of my faves--Harry Potter!

With some cardboard and scrapbook paper, we turned a corner of the library into a Scrabble board!  The words are popular YA book words.

Happy Halloween!
